The First Gate
WHERE ARE WE IN THE LIFE CYCLE OF CIVILIZATIONS?
Warriors arise only at specific times when the current society, ruler or nation is endangered. Otherwise, there is no need for them to shift their priorities to the role of service and self-sacrifice, or to train themselves so they may be of wise service.
Warriors for the Human Spirit are arising because the human spirit needs protection. We are peaceful warriors, refraining from using aggression and fear to do our work. We recognize the harm being done to people, planet, and all life. We have identified where we are historically in the well-documented pattern of a civilization’s rise and fall. We know that collapse is here.
But is this view one that you share? If you are interested to understand the reasons we in Warrior Training have this clarity, how it motivates us to prepare to be of service as things continue to fail, we offer here two podcasts by Meg. These two interviews make clear our view and work, and can make visible your own understanding of this present time.
After listening to these podcasts, we encourage your discernment about your own view. If there is sufficient congruence of views, we invite you to enter the Second Gate, a three-week contemplation process that offers deeper exploration about whether Warrior Training is the right path for you.
As you listen to these two podcasts, we suggest that you make notes of what most surprises you, what gets you either upset or relieved, what arguments might you be countering with, what rings true in your own experience. It would be good to take a few days to explore your reactions and responses before making a decision to proceed or not.
It is extremely challenging and deeply saddening to come to terms with where we are. We know this first-hand and still encounter many periods of OMG and despair. Yet we rise from there every time with renewed commitment to train to be of service as Warriors. This is why we encourage your reflection.
Thank you for your bravery,

Sounds True: Insights at the Edge with Tami Simon.
Margaret Wheatley: Warriors for the Human Spirit
In this interview, Tami and Meg talk about the cycles of life and history as they apply to the chaotic contemporary world. They discuss the need to create “islands of sanity” within our communities and what it means to become a warrior for the human spirit, and how such a warrior can avoid engaging in the same fear and anger we are trying to fight. Tami is consciously wrestling with the historic scenario Meg presents—which makes this an excellent exploration.

An interview with Joshua Fields from Neonosis
Margaret Wheatley on Civilization Collapse
This podcast goes into great depth about what’s happening, and our responses to this time. Joshua describes the content of our interview: “Margaret’s book, Who Do We Choose to Be, is a deconstruction of the patterns of civilization collapse and a call to action for courageous leadership in a time of demise. In this episode, we dive into the factors involved in collapse, the progress trap, and how we can show up as leaders in these testing times.”

While despair might permeate the greater part of the nation, others achieved a new realization of the fact that only readiness for self-sacrifice could enable a community to survive. Some of the greatest saints in history lived in times of national decadence, raising the banner of duty and service against the flood of depravity and despair.
