NEW DVD: FOR PERSEVERING PEOPLE
with Margaret Wheatley
$25.00 plus S&H

How do we not lose our way in this difficult time?

How do we maintain our clarity, stamina and faith as we experience disruptions, set-backs and obstacles?

How do we persevere on behalf of the people, places and causes we love?

Based on Margaret's book Perseverance, this DVD is a gentle, encouraging inquiry into these and other questions, and provides you with the opportunity to reflect on the challenges and strengths of people who persevere.

Filmed in the natural beauty of Sundance and Provo River Canyon in Utah, Margaret guides you through a series of reflections so that you might notice how you're being affected by dynamics that can demoralize and exhaust us. She calls us to notice that we all come from ancestors who persevered (otherwise we wouldn't be here) and to claim our identity as one who wants to persevere.

Throughout, you're given time to pause and reflect in the presence of nature's beauty. It is our intent that you'll feel rested, provoked and refreshed by the experience of this DVD.

  • Chapter One: How are you being affected by these times?
  • Chapter Two: Staying in the middle of the river
  • Chapter Three: Perseverance requires mindfulness
  • Chapter Four: Dealing with opposition, urgency and change
  • Chapter Five: Turning to one another

Engaging Community Toolkit
A Toolkit for Building Healthy and Resilient Communities
Created by The Berkana Institute and Neighborhood Centers Inc.

$179.00

Whatever the problem, community is the answer.

The mantra for this time seems to be “We’re all in this together.”  With The Berkana Institute, we’ve worked with many communities who’ve made this statement come alive; they’ve discovered the wisdom and wealth present in themselves, their traditions, and their environments.  We believe wholeheartedly that community is the best resource to get through difficult times. This is even more important in this age of fractured relationships and extreme politics when it can be difficult to remember what good community feels like, how joyful it feels when we’re working well together.

There is no power for change greater than when a community discovers what it cares about.

This toolkit contains a variety of approaches for engaging community: information and processes in a rich variety of media, and in both English and Spanish.  We want to make it possible for every community--large or small, defined by geography, ethnicity, beliefs, income level, shared pain or shared opportunity—to know how to engage their members to resolve their current challenges and create the futures they desire.

T-SHIRT:
Practice Peace: Proceed Until Apprehended

Practice PeaceA few years ago, working in a large healthcare system, a woman offered me her family motto, "Proceed until apprehended!" Since that time, I've spoken it to many people and asked that we let it guide our actions.

Recently, two sisters who have a socially enlightened T-shirt company offered to design the motto into a shirt, and also to benefit The Berkana Institute.

Practice Peace t-shirtSo now we have a great T-shirt with a powerful message and a beautiful image. (The image of hands tenderly cradling the world was taken from a recent poem of mine.)

Visit www.thefirstmove.net/pua to see the shirt and place your order. $3.00 of each shirt purchased goes to Berkana.

May we all "Practice Peace and proceed until apprehended."

COURAGE, CONVERSATION AND CHANGING THE WORLD
with Margaret Wheatley
New Dimensions Radio Interview, Spring 2005

Never before in human history have we been exposed to so much data from so many sources, a veritable deluge. Is it any wonder that people are anxious, cynical, worried, unhappy in their work, and seeking ways to escape? Is there a way out beyond drugs, legal and illegal, or losing ourselves in television, which doesn't tell visions ever? According to Wheatley, "We have to slow down. Nothing will change for the better until we do. We need time to think, to learn, to get to know each other. We are losing these great human capacities in the speed-up of modern life, and it is killing us." For years, Margaret Wheatley has written eloquently about humanizing our organization and helping people work together more effectively and compassionately. In this engaging and provocative dialogue, she shows how organizations can function more like responsive self-organizing, living systems, rather than cold mechanisms of control. Wheatley also expands her ideas into the wider arena of human society.

Topics explored in this dialogue with New Dimensions host Michael Toms:

  • What is radical thinking?
  • How to start conversations to make a difference
  • How being centered can manifest real change
  • How your languaging may be unconsciously aggressive
  • Why you need to pay attention to what’s in front of you

New Dimensions Radio is a listener supported public benefit, social profit, tax-exempt organization.
